From 1st Grade through and including 12th Grade, all of New Horizons Home School Academy℠ curricula incorporate six major academic disciplines: Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Vocabulary. For each grade level, the curriculum is fully prepared, and you receive not only a detailed outline, called a Checksheet, of the work your child is to perform but also all the Texts & Materials required to perform the work.
A Checksheet is a comprehensive list itemizing the work the student is to carry out over a particular course of time in study and given in the sequence it is to be done. It is derived specifically from the curriculum created uniquely for that student, and it is prepared in such a way that it is student and parent friendly, eliminating the time consuming and often overwhelming lesson preparation that can be so discouraging to parents and children alike.
New Horizons Home School Academy℠ utilizes a self-paced method of study, giving students the ability to work at their own rate of comprehension. The advantages of this method are phenomenal.
At first glance, it may appear that a student allowed to determine a pace of study would opt for no pace at all, but the result is actually quite the contrary: students who are self-paced normally complete their studies faster and with greater understanding than when forced to keep up with, or slow down for, a classrom paced environment.
The fact of the matter is that self-paced students often complete more than one year's work each scholastic year.
Checksheets make it possible for the student to maintain a focus on the direction of study while allowing student skills and intellectual capacity to determine the rate of progress. Coupled with a challenging curriculum and Academy-provided targeting and supervision and you have one dynamic combination.

Once a student has been enrolled with New Horizons Home School Academy℠, a Comprehensive Student Interpretive Test (CSIT) will be either e-mailed to you or sent first class USPS (whichever you prefer). The CSIT is an academic assessment tool which pinpoints educational strengths and weaknesses and assists us in determining grade level placement. This test further permits us to individualize a study program for the student that facilitates academic excellence.
Thereafter, at regular intervals throughout the scholastic year, we will perform routine testing that helps to keep you apprised of the student's progress, and that aids us in continuing to program the student along the course of academic achievement.
If, in the course of study, it becomes evident that the student is having difficulty with a certain subject or in a particular study area, special and meticulous attention will be given to that subject or area of study (while reinforcing continued progress on the subjects the student is succeeding at) until such time when a proficiency is achieved. This flexibility is afforded by home schooling. It is unique to a self-paced, individual-student-based course of study, and it opens the door to the opportunity to achieve a mastery of a subject regardless of study weaknesses a student may be exhibiting.
And as such, this is but one of the many advantages of home schooling.
